Anselmo Moreno Rejects Nonito Donaire Offer
Contrary to recent reports, WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno (30-1, 10 KOs) has rejected an offer to a unification bout against WBC/WBO Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) on May 28 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, according to Moreno’s agent Roberto Grimaldo, citing an insufficient offer of $300,000.
Grimaldo, who disagrees with the Moreno’s decision, was alerted of the circumstances through Chemito’s wife.
“Supposedly, Chemito’s wife spoke to him personally because he’s not answering me. I left him a message on his phone asking if he was going to fight or not. I left a message today, and yesterday, and he did not answer. And if he’s not answering then I believe he’s not interested,” Grimaldo said. “I think it is a suitable purse. It is not the best purse of the world, but it’s the best that we could achieve.”
Although Grimlado appears isolated from the circumstances, the agent explained that the bout could still occur.
“I have heard that he plans to train in the gym, and I will be there to try to talk to him, if possible.”
If the bout is cancelled, “The Filipino Flash” still has an opportunity to fight in a unification bout with WBA “regular” bantamweight champion Koki Kameda, who recently proclaimed that he “will fight with Donaire anytime”.
